EMDR Intensive Therapy
Accelerated Trauma Healing in 1–3 Days
Some experiences leave a mark that talk therapy alone can’t quite reach. You may have spent years trying to move on, only to find yourself triggered, overwhelmed, or stuck in the same emotional loops. Weekly therapy can help—but sometimes you are ready for deeper, faster relief.
EMDR Intensives offer a powerful alternative.
Instead of processing trauma in small pieces week after week, you spend 1–3 full days in focused, trauma-informed EMDR work designed to create meaningful change in a shorter period of time.
At A Road Through in Sherman Oaks, we provide EMDR Intensives for clients across Los Angeles and California who are seeking accelerated healing, deeper breakthrough, and real movement where they’ve felt stuck for years.
What Is an EMDR Intensive?
An EMDR Intensive is a structured, extended-format therapy experience that compresses several months of EMDR into one, two, or three consecutive days.
Each intensive is customized to your history, your nervous system, and your goals.
You’ll receive:
Longer EMDR processing windows
Dedicated prep and resourcing
Integrative breaks
A safe, attuned therapeutic environment
A clear plan for post-intensive support
This format allows your brain to stay in the EMDR “healing lane” without the weekly interruption that can slow progress.
Many clients experience significant relief after a single intensive.
Who EMDR Intensives Are For
EMDR Intensives are especially helpful if you:
Feel stuck in weekly therapy or want faster results
Have a specific traumatic event you want to process
Are navigating a breakup, loss, or major life transition
Have childhood or attachment trauma that still affects your relationships
Experience performance anxiety, creative blocks, or fear of failure
Are a high-functioning adult who needs efficient, structured support
Prefer a private, immersive healing space rather than week-to-week talk therapy
Live outside Los Angeles but can travel for a short, focused healing experience
Want to begin or continue EMDR without months of weekly appointments
You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many clients do intensives because they’re simply ready to heal, grow, and move forward without waiting another year.
What EMDR Therapy Can Help With
EMDR is effective for a wide range of traumatic experiences, including:
Single-Incident Trauma
Car accidents
Medical trauma
Sexual assault or physical assault
An unexpected loss
A frightening or overwhelming event
Complex & Developmental Trauma
Growing up with an alcoholic or mentally ill parent
Toxic or emotionally abusive relationships
Bullying or repeated rejection
Feeling unloved, unseen, or unsafe throughout childhood
Being parentified or responsible for others
Other Experiences EMDR Can Address
Anxiety, panic or hyper vigilance
Shame or chronic self-doubt
Performance anxiety
Phobias or specific fears
Disturbing life events that "shouldn't" still bother you but do
Relationship struggles
People-pleasing or codependency
If trauma—big or small—is affecting how you show up, EMDR intensives can create lasting shifts.
What Happens During an EMDR Intensive
Every EMDR Intensive follows a predictable, supportive structure so you never feel rushed or overwhelmed.
1. Before Your Intensive (Assessment & Planning)
We meet for a 60–90 minute session to understand your goals, history, and current symptoms. Together, we identify the memory targets or emotional patterns you want relief from.
You’ll also receive preparation worksheets and resources so you feel grounded going in.
2. Day of Intensive (1–3 Days)
Each day includes:
Regulation and grounding
Resourcing and nervous system prep
EMDR processing
Breaks to keep your system supported
Integration and reflection
A typical day runs 3–6 hours (with breaks), depending on your selected format and your nervous system’s needs.
3. Post-Intensive Integration
After the intensive, you receive:
A follow-up integration session
Personalized practices for stabilization
A summary of themes and insights (if desired)
Recommendations for continued EMDR or weekly therapy
Your healing doesn’t end when the intensive ends. We create a plan to help you maintain the progress you gained.
